Why licensing matters

Licensed home boarders in Liverpool

Anyone paid to board dogs in their home in England needs a current animal-boarding licencefrom their local council, under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. Councils inspect each boarder's home and give a star rating from one to five.

Unlicensed paid boarding is technically a criminal offence and can invalidate some pet-insurance policies — worth knowing before you agree an overnight stay. Walkers, day visits and drop-ins don't require this licence.

On every Liverpoolprofile we show whether the boarder is on the local council's public register, plus the licence number so you can verify it yourself.
